EROSION

Situated between Barcelona and Carserolla National Park, this project transforms a degraded landscape into a regenerative and social space, reconnecting the city with nature. Once suffering from erosion and poor water management, the site was revitalized through the IAACs and Bauhaus Earth's Open Nature program. The goal of the project is to create a harmonious balance between urban living and the natural environment, providing both ecological and social benefits.

Site Analysis and Strategies

The site, formerly impacted by erosion and improper water management, required a strategic approach to reverse ecological decline. By stabilizing the retreating ecosystem edge, the design encourages the natural expansion of the landscape. A key intervention was the creation of a water retention area that collects runoff, preventing further erosion and fostering regeneration. A bio-berm was introduced, lined with local plants to promote ecological succession and biodiversity, helping the landscape recover and thrive. This water management strategy not only restores the ecosystem but also provides a natural space for the community to enjoy.

Rammed Earth Bench

To foster social engagement, the project integrates a rammed earth bench, designed as a resting spot for hikers and bikers. This bench, inspired by the local topography, is made from local soil, echoing the natural landscape and blending seamlessly with its surroundings. Positioned at the city-park interface, the bench serves as a symbol of regeneration—both ecological and social—by providing a space where residents and visitors can reconnect with nature while contributing to the ongoing restoration of the environment.
